The Logical One is the watch that put Romain Gauthier at the front of independent watchmaking. It launched in 2013 and won at the GPHG, where it was recognized as a modern reinterpretation of the centuries-old fusée-and-chain. Gauthier replaced the traditional fusée cone with a slowly rotating snail cam on the same plane as the mainspring barrel, which delivers constant force through a single short chain. The result is consistent timekeeping from full wind to the final hours of the power reserve, solved with an elegance few manufactures could achieve.

In 2021, Romain Gauthier announced the retirement of the Logical One and closed the chapter with the Final Edition. Only twenty pieces were made in titanium, with deliveries completed by the model’s tenth anniversary in 2023. The 43mm case is machined from titanium and left in its natural finish. It measures 14.5mm thick, yet it is remarkably light on the wrist given its presence. Hours and minutes sit on a white enamel subdial at 1 o’clock, with small seconds below. The rest of the face opens onto the snail cam, the chain, and the bridges, set against a blackened titanium baseplate.

The movement has 63 jewels, and nearly every component is made in-house in the Vallée de Joux, including the hairspring, which is a rarity even among independents. As one of twenty examples of the last Logical One ever produced, this is a modern horological landmark with a fixed and permanent supply. It is offered to the collector who values mechanical ingenuity and true scarcity over brand recognition.
