Greubel Forsey Quadruple Tourbillon GF03OR5CN
The Quadruple Tourbillon is the watch that made Greubel Forsey's reputation for engineering above all else. Two complete Double Tourbillon 30° systems run independently inside a single movement, each one a tourbillon within a tourbillon: an inner cage inclined at 30 degrees making a revolution every 60 seconds, carried by an outer cage turning once every four minutes. The two systems are linked by a spherical differential that averages their rates, so errors in one are offset by the other. The result is a level of positional accuracy no single tourbillon can reach, and, seen through the dial, four cages rotating out of step with one another in continuous motion.
The 43.5mm case is 18-carat 5N red gold, deliberately asymmetric, its shape following the architecture of the movement rather than fighting it. The black dial is a study in depth: transparent sapphire bridges reveal the mechanism beneath, Roman numerals mark the hours, and semi-circular sectors display the running seconds and the power reserve. The hand-wound calibre GF03 is built from 531 components and beats at 21,600 vph with a 50-hour power reserve. Every bridge, screw and surface is finished by hand to the standard that puts Greubel Forsey in a category of its own, and the sapphire caseback leaves nothing hidden. The watch is worn on a hand-sewn alligator strap with a matching red gold folding clasp.
Between 2008 and 2021, Greubel Forsey produced just 88 Quadruple Tourbillons in total, across red gold, platinum and titanium. Very few of these ever come to market, and the red gold execution with a black dial is among the most coveted. This is a cornerstone piece of twenty-first-century haute horlogerie, and an opportunity that seldom presents itself.
