De Bethune named its most celebrated series after the Miles Davis album Kind of Blue, and the DB28XP version shows how far the brand can take a single colour. The 43mm case, floating lugs and dial are all Grade 5 titanium, polished and then heat-blued by hand, which gives the watch a deep blue that changes with the light. The case is only 8.5mm thick, and the articulated lugs follow the wrist, so this is one of the most comfortable and refined DB28s ever made. Spherical rose gold hour markers add warmth to the blue, and the blue alligator strap and blued titanium pin buckle finish the design.

The dial shows the movement openly. A central delta-shaped bridge frames the two mainspring barrels, and the balance wheel is exposed at six o'clock above De Bethune's "microlight" decoration, a pattern of concentric circles that seems to spread outward from the balance. Inside is the in-house calibre DB2115v12, a hand-wound movement running at 28,800 vph. Its twin barrels provide a six-day power reserve, and a power reserve indicator is visible through the caseback, so the dial stays clean.

Unveiled at Geneva Watch Days in 2023 and limited to 25 pieces, the DB28XP Kind of Blue is one of the rarest and most sought-after modern De Bethunes. It combines exceptional material craft, avant-garde design and serious watchmaking, and for collectors of independent haute horlogerie it is a signature piece.
